Finals of Leinster Chess Union Cup Competitions 2026

The club hosted the finals of the Leinster Chess Union’s three Cup competitions on Sunday 26thJuly.

Elm Mount had 4 teams competing in the events, one in each of the Branagan Cup and Killane Shield competitions and two teams in the William Brennan Cup competition.
The Branagan Cup team lost their semi final to Malahide, but won the 3rd/4th place play-off against Knights of Eanna. St Benildus won the Cup beating Malahide in the final.
The Killane Shield team won their semi-final against Knights of Eanna and played Dundalk in the final. The team lost the final match against a strong Dundalk team to finish as runners-up.
In the William Brennan Cup competition both Elm Mount teams lost in the semi-finals to set up an all Elm Mount clash in the 3rd/4th place play-off. The match ended 3-3 with the Elm Mount A team prevailing on tie break to finish 3rd.
Given the strength of the opposing teams each of the club’s teams acquitted themselves very well over the course of the competition.

Elm Mount Junior Prizewinners at Le Chéile Event

Elm Mount’s Junior Players were amongst the Prizes at a recent Junior Chess Event held in the Le Chéile Centre, in Donnycarney.  Ten of the Club’s Junior members took part in a recent competition for young chess players.

Congratulations to all of the club’s junior players involved which included a number who were playing in their very first competitive chess event. One of the club’s youngest members, Shanvi Dash, won her section of the event as well as the best girl prize and Eric Yuze Lin finished as runner up in his section. Shanvi and Eric are pictured below with their prizes.
