John Loughran won a grading prize in Kilkenny with a score of 4/6 in the Major.

Oliver Dunne has submitted a new “Chess Piece” about George Orwell and Chess.

The current status of Elm Mount’s teams in the Leinster Leagues is:-
Armstrong Cup: 2nd
Heidenfeld Trophy: 5th
Ennis Shield: 8th (although having played less games than the other teams)
O’Hanlon Cup: 6th
Bodley Cup (Group B): 2nd

Elm Mount 5½ Balbriggan 2½ (Armstrong, 22nd September)
St. Benildus 4½ Elm Mount 3½ (Heidenfeld, 26th September)
Dun Laoghaire 4 Elm Mount 4 (Armstrong, 3rd October)

City of Dublin prizewinner

Ciaran Quinn (right) receives his prize for finishing runner up in the Masters Section of the City of Dublin Chess Championships 2012 from Leinster Chess Union President, Charlie Talbot. Ciaran achieved a very creditable score of 3.5/5 in a very competitive event.

The City of Dublin tournament is taking place in the Teachers Club in Parnell Square next weekend (7th to 9th September).  There are 6 Elm Mount players entered so far – details of the tournament are here.

The fixtures for divisions 1 to 5 for the 2012/13 season have been published on the LCU site. Elm Mount have teams in divisions 1 to 4. The first matches are:-
