Updates 11/7/2011
The 2011 Club Championships cross-tables have been updated here.
John Loughran was the only Elm Mount player in the Irish Championships - he scored 2/9.
Tomas Bajcar came joint 2nd in the Irish Championships Weekender Tournament with 4/5.

Updates 30/5/2011
Elm Mount Chess Club won the Branagan Cup for the first time in the Club's history by defeating Gonzaga 5.5 - 0.5 in the final in the Teacher's Club in Dublin city centre. Pictured below (left) are the Elm Mount players who competed in the competition in 2011 with Mick Germaine who presented the prizes on behalf of the Leinster Chess Union (Zygis Jakubauskas also played).
The club's juniors also did well at the same venue when finishing in 3rd place in the inaugural Mick Germaine Cup Competition. The Elm Mount team is pictured with their prizes, from left, Liza Fitzsimons, Cian MacGowan, Mick Germaine who presented the prizes, Aidan Lynch and Naoise MacGowan.

The Elm Mount AGM was held on the 23rd May. The 2010-11 season board prize winners were presented with their prizes at the AGM.

Updates 26/4/2011
The 2011 Leinster Chess Championships took place in the Teacher's Club in Dublin's city centre over the weekend of 22nd -24th April. Several Elm Mount Players were amongst the prizes as follows:
The Masters Section finished in a tie at the top with 4 players on a score of 4/6, amongst them David Fitzsimons who finished in fourth place on tie break. William Ffrench won the Challengers Section outright with Ronan Murphy winning a grading prize in the same section. One of the club's up and coming younger players, Nikhil George Rajesh (age 12) won a grading prize in the Juniors Section. Elm Mount have won the Heidenfeld Trophy!
Elm Mount won the Heidenfeld Trophy in the 2010/2011 season, beating Inchicore 7-1 in the last round in the Teachers Club on 13/3/2011 to finish 3.5 points ahead of Celbridge. This also means that the team has been promoted to the Armstrong Cup for next season.

League Final Round
The final round of the Leinster Chess League will take place on Sunday 13th March 2011 in the Teacher's Club.
The best-placed Elm Mount team is the Heidenfeld team which is in contention to win the trophy.
Bunratty 2011
A number of Elm Mount players competed in the 2011 Bunratty Chess Tournament recently. David Fitzsimons won the best untitled Irish player prize with the highlight of his performance being a draw with top seed English Grandmaster Nigel Short. David achieved his draw against the former world championship contender in round 5. John Loughran, pictured with baby daughter Mary, won a grading prize in the Challengers Section.
National Club Championship
Elm Mount participated in the National Club Championship on 12th/13th February. The team won 1 match, drew with Gonzaga and lost 2 matches by the narrowest of margins. Top scorers were Matthias Rahneberg and Tomas Bajcar with 3/4 each. There is a report on the ICU site here.
Gonzaga 2011
David Fitzsimons won the 2011 Gonzaga Chess Classic recently for the second year running with a perfect 5/5 score.
David is pictured receiving his prize from Tournament Organiser Danny Lynch.
William Ffrench came joint 3rd in the Championship section.

Updates 5/12/2010
Christmas is approaching - the Elm Mount club Christmas Blitz will take place in the club on Monday 20th December. Prizes for the club championship will be presented the same night.
The LCU Christmas will take place in the Elm Mount premises on Wednesday 15th December.
After 5 rounds of the leagues, Elm Mount are in first (or joint first) position in divisions 1, 2 and 3.
Some games have been postponed because of the weather.
There is a new item in the Chess Pieces section - an extract from the novel Murphy by Samuel Beckett featuring a game of chess.

Tournament news
A number of Elm Mount players took part in the Irish Championship tournaments.
5 Elm Mount players played in the main 2010 Irish Championship -
Ciaran Quinn 5.5/9,
David Fitzsimons 4.5/9,
Liam Porter 4/9,
Bernard Boyle 3.5/9,
John Loughran 2.5/9.
Tomas Bajcar finished joint second with 4/5 in the Weekender.
Notable results included Bernard Boyle's win over Colm Daly and Ronan Murphy's win over Colm Fitzpatrick.
David Fitzsimons will be playing in the IM section at the Dun Laoghaire chess festival in late August.
League news
The 2010/11 fixtures for the top 5 divisions have been drawn up. The first matches for the Elm Mount teams are:-
- Division 1 Armstrong Cup - Monday 13 September at home to Dun Laoghaire
- Division 2 Heidenfeld Trophy - Thursday 23 September away to Lucan
- Division 3 Ennis Shield - Saturday 25th September at home to Longford

Tournament news 24/4/2010
David Fitzsimons retained the Leinster Chess Championship recently by
winning the Masters Section of the Championships for the second time in a
row on an unbeaten score of 4/5. He clinched the title by winning a final
round "winner takes all" encounter with Colm Daly, the reigning Irish
Senior Champion.

Elm Mount have won the Armstrong Cup!
Elm Mount won the Armstrong Cup, the first division of the Leinster chess league, for the first time on March 14th 2010 when the Armstrong A team beat St. Benildus 6-2.
The teams were joint leaders on 51 points going into the last round.
Kilkenny who were 1.5 points behind going into the last round won 7-1 to come second by half a point.

The Leinster Chess League season concluded on 14th March 2010.
The following are the final standings on the Elm Mount teams:-
- Division 1 - Armstrong Cup: A team 1st (57 points out of 88), winners
- Division 1 - Armstrong Cup: B team 11th (30/88), relegated
- Division 3 - Ennis Shield: 3rd (35.5/66)
- Division 4 - O'Hanlon Cup: 8th (31/66)
- Division 5 - BEA Cup: 4th (29.5/50)
